Forever
Book

An orange computer and a clear persistent page: joined as a book, useful apart, able to draw from your hands onto a wall.

00 / assembled architecture

One machine. Two leaves.

The floating object settles into two independently powered leaves. Orange holds the CM5, front spatial camera and projector; clear holds persistent e-paper and its own low-power controller.

361.6 mmopen width 25.1 mmcore body 7 filesprint package

01 / display stack

Two pages. Two behaviours.

The new official 10-inch Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 delivers ten-finger input at 1200 x 1920. The 10.3-inch Waveshare e-paper page holds its image without continuous power.

02 / compute + air

CM5, cooled sideways.

An 8 GB / 64 GB Compute Module 5 sits on a custom 55 x 41 mm low-profile carrier. A 25 mm blower drives air across a 5.5 mm side-flow spreader through the orange-leaf plenum.

03 / senses + sound

Your hand becomes the stylus.

An IMX708 Camera Module 3 Wide sensor head sits between two compact tracking cameras on the orange face. MediaPipe runs on the CM5; a VL53L5CX checks hand and wall distance. Fingerprint identity and the yellow Pimoroni I2S amp complete the interface.

04 / solar + isolated power

Each leaf powers itself.

Two integrated Voltaic P105 skins feed two protected 3 Ah pouch targets through low-profile BQ24074 / MAX17048 boards. Clear keeps pages and sync alive on a Pico 2 W; orange keeps the only GPU.

05 / projection + service

The fold aims the projector.

The 33 x 30.5 x 13.6 mm DLP2000 light engine leaves through the orange top edge. Its driver, blower, cradle, heatshield and shutter separate in place; pull one hinge pin and unplug one USB-C bridge to release both pads.

System architecture

Every function has a physical address.

The orange leaf owns compute, gesture input and projected output in one reference frame. The clear leaf owns the persistent page. Each has solar, battery and control; the convex hinge provides book, tent and projector-aim geometry.

One hinge / three useful objects

A book when held. A frame when placed. Two pads when released.

Forever Book CAD folded into a triangular tabletop tent

Convex tent mode

The alternating barrel spine rotates past flat. Both solar backs become the feet, while the orange top-edge projector follows the fold angle for physical aim.

Forever Book orange and clear leaves detached beside the removable hinge pin and USB-C bridge

Independent leaves

Pull the pin and unplug the short bridge. Orange remains the CM5 computer; clear remains a solar e-paper notebook on its Pico 2 W controller.

Material direction

Orange compute. Clear evidence.

The left shell carries the warm register of the original Fredda object. The right shell exposes batteries, camera, and e-paper logic rather than hiding the construction inside anonymous black plastic.

Thermal + service logic

Heat never crosses into the cell bay.

  1. Outer-edge intake feeds the 25 mm blower beneath the orange touch page.
  2. Side-flow air crosses the 5.5 mm CM5 spreader and exits into the convex spine.
  3. The DLP2000 engine has its own 25 mm blower and top-edge exhaust.
  4. Each battery is thermally isolated behind its own removable P105 solar skin.
  5. Each leaf has an independently switched charge, gauge and 5 V power domain.
  6. Side-entered M2.5 screws, one pull pin and one USB-C bridge release every service boundary.
